CONSTITUTION DISEASES.
Tuberculosis.—During the year 1911 there were 26 cases of
pulmonary phthisis voluntarily notified by [medical practitioners
practising in Hackney. This is a decline of 20 upon the number
voluntarily notified during 1910. There were, however, 234 cases
notified under the Public Health (Tuberculosis) Regulations, 1908,
and 322 cases notifed under the Public Health (Tuberculosis
Hospitals) 1911.
Bacteriological examination of sputa from 132 cases was made
during the same period. In 22 of these examinations, the specific
organism of the disease was discovered; in 110cases, the result of
examination was negative. The number of deaths from tuberculous
disease occurring in Hackney during 1911 was 399,
which are classified as follows:—

This number of deaths gives an annual mortality of nearly
1.7 per 1,000 living.
The deaths are distributed in the sub-districts of the Borough, as follows:—
