The total number of cases of measles notified from the schools
during the year was 2,626.
The action taken in these cases was to send to the person in
charge of the patient a leaflet (see appendix) on the "Prevention
of Measles," together with a letter asking to be informed when the
child had recovered or had been removed to hospital in order that
the premises, &c., might be disinfected. A printed and stamped
form of reply was enclosed.
Many cases, especially those in most need from their condition
and circumstances, were removed to the Asylums Board's Hospitals.
On receiving notice of removal disinfection was immediately
carried out.
There were 234 cases of measles removed to the Metropolitan
Asylums Board's Hospitals during the year.
Whooping Cough.—I received information of 374 cases of
whooping cough in the Borough during 1911 from the head-masters
and mistresses of the elementary schools in the Borough. There
were 52 deaths from this disease registered during the year. This
is equal to a mortality rate of .23 per 1,000 living. The death-rate
for all London for the same period was "23 per 1,000 living. The
number of cases of whooping cough removed to hospital during
the year was 31.

The distribution of the disease in the sub-districts of the Borough is given in the following table :—
