In four instances it was found necessary to erect upcast ventilating
shafts in the following situations :—
Bolingbroke Grove.
Candahar Road.
Clapham Junction Approach.
Linford Street.

These vans undergo frequent inspection by the Council's
Sanitary Inspectors, both by night as well as day. During the
year twenty-three vans were found to be overcrowded, and notices
under the by-laws were served where necessary to abate.
Four cases of infectious disease were notified from amongst
van dwellers during 1912. The patients were immediately removed
to the Isolation Hospital, and the usual further precautions taken
to prevent the spread of infection.
