the rate was as high as 8.12 per 1,000, or 1.17 higher than that of the Borough,
and in the Encircling Boroughs it was 9.48, or 2.53 above the Islington rate.
Hospital Isolation.—Out of the 1,927 cases that were notified, 1,466,
or 76.1 per cent, were removed to hospital for treatment, of whom 82, or 5.6
per cent, died, as against 5.4 per cent, of the cases that remained at home.
This is the first occasion in recent years in which the home fatality was less
than that of hospital. It, however, is due to the small home fatality arising
from Erysipelas, which amounted to only 2.8 per cent.
Fatality.—During the year 107 deaths occurred amongst the 1,927 cases
which were notified, so that the fatality rate was 5.5 per cent., which is the
lowest hitherto recorded.
In the preceding year it had been 6.1 per cent., and in 1903 6.3 per cent.,
while the average since 1891 has been 8 6 per cent.
The returns of previous years, as given below, show that there has been a
steady diminution not only in the actual number of the notifications, but
in the percentage proportion of the deaths to them.

The particulars for these years are as follows :—
