In the Quarters.—In the First Quarter the number of cases notified
was 392, which produced an annual attack-rate of 4*57 per 1,000 inhabitants.
These were 180 below the corrected average (572) which obtained in the first
quarters of the preceding ten years. In the County of London, during the
same period, the attack-rate was 5.89 per t,ooo, or 1.32 higher than in Islington
while in the Encircling Boroughs it was 6.11 per 1,000, or 1.54 higher than here.
In the Second Quarter the cases numbered 396, which were equal to
an annual attack-rate of 4.62 per 1,000 inhabitants. They were 166 less than
the average (562) of the second quarter of the preceding ten years.
During the same period the attack-rate in the County of London was 6.18
per 1,000, or 1.56 higher than in Islington, while in the Encircling Boroughs
it was 6.30, or 1.68 above the rate of the Borough.
In the Third Quarter there were 543 cases notified, or 204 less than the
corrected average (747) which had been reported in the third quarters of the
preceding ten years, and they produced an annual attack rate of 6.33 per 1,000.
In this period the attack-rate in the County of London was 7.57 per 1,000,
or 1.24 higher than locally, while in the Encircling Boroughs it was 8.64 per
1,000, or 2.31 higher than in Islington
In the Fourth Quarter 596 cases were entered, or 258 below the average
(854) of the ten preceding and corresponding quarters, and they produced an
annual attack-rate of 6.95 per 1,000 inhabitants, while in the County of London
