Deaths.—These numbered 1,383, the lowest figure recorded in any
corresponding quarter during the last eighteen years. They were 307 less than
the corrected average (1,690) of the ten years (1893-1902), and were equal to
an annual death-rate of 16.31 per 1,000, as compared with a mean rate in ten
years for this quarter of the year of 19.93 per 1,000. The decreased mortality
was mainly due to the unusually mild climatic conditions that prevailed during
the quarter. The highest number of deaths occurred in the third week in
January, and the lowest in the second week in March.
In the County of London the death rate was 16.8, and in the Encircling
Districts 16.9 per 1,000.

Holloway, 16.10 in Tollington, 17.43 in Lower Holloway, 14.06 in Highbury.
