It would have been desirable to include
information as to the sex-age constitution
of the populations of the sub-districts, but the
requisite data are not available.
A comparison of crude rates, be they of
births, deaths, &c., is untrustworthy, not to say
misleading. It is essential that account be
taken of the proportions of males and females
at the various ages used in the statistical records.
The great differences in the composition of the
populations of the areas selected for comparison
with the City, will be apparent from a perusal
of the following Tables:—
