This was an increase of 16,608 tons over the
average of the previous five years, and 7,701
tons more than the total for 1899.
Of the above, 144,049 tons were consigned to Billingsgate Market, the remainder, viz., 43,635, being delivered at the salesmen's shops in the neighbourhood of the Market.
Year. | Fish Delivered at Billingsgate Market. | Fish Delivered in the neighbourhood of Billingsgate Market. | Total Deliveries. |
---|---|---|---|
1899 | 148,088 | 31,895 | 179,983 |
1900 | 144,049 | 43,635 | 187,684 |
4,039 decrease. | 11,740 increase. | 7,701 |
The increase in the year's deliveries noted above
is occasioned by a very large excess in the landborne
supplies, but there has been a notable
decrease in the weight delivered by water, viz.,
12,445 tons less than in 1899, and 4,720 tons
less than the average for the previous five years.
These figures can be more readily understood
from the Table on page 122.
