SKIPS.
This skip system for house refuse removal,
which commenced in 1892, has been extended as
circumstances demanded, and much benefit has
accrued to the persons for whose relief the
method was adopted. The public dust-bins,
which were, from their misuse, a nuisance and a
constant source of trouble, have been abolished.
Up to the end of the year 807 of these skips
had been supplied in the poorer neighbourhoods
without charge, and 530 were paid for by ratepayers
: total 1,337.
SUMMER FLUSHING OF COURTS, & c.
The flushing of the more thickly-populated
and poorer parts of the City during the hot
months was carried on as usual, followed by the
use of deodorants in the channels running through
the courts and alleys, &c.
