MORTALITY.
During the year under review, 1,011 deaths
were registered in the District, including *642
persons dying in the City, but not belonging
thereto. See Table A for details.
Deducting the latter we have to deal with 369
deaths, to which we must add 149 persons who
died at City Institutions in outside districts, where
they were registered. The mortality, therefore,
upon which our death rate is calculated is 518.
The death rate for 1899 was 18.5 per 1,000
per annum of the population (the previous year
being 16.3), whilst that for the whole of the
Metropolis for 1899 was 19.8. These figures
are not corrected for sex and age distribution.
* All these deaths occurred in St. Bartholomew's Hospital.
