The Local Government Board have just issued (May,
1894) a Provisional Order, transferring to the London
County Council all the powers at present exercised within
the county by the Metropolitan Police, under the provisions
of the Common Lodging-house Acts, 1851 and 1853. The
order, however, reserves to the Police the right of free
access at all times to any Common Lodging-house.
This transfer of powers has been effected under Section
10 of the Local Government Act, 1888, and will be subject
to confirmation by Parliament.
Sanitary Work.
Public Health (London) Act, 1891, 54 & 55 Vict., cap. 76.
Inspection of District. Sect. 1.
On referring to table 6, appendix, it will be seen that
Sanitary Inspectors Bond and Robinson, during the year
made 10,821 visits and inspections, and served 1,108 orders
for sanitary amendments of houses and premises.
Proceedings at Petty Sessional Court. Sect. 5.
In 50 cases where the statutory notices were not complied
with, the owners were summoned to Bow Street Police
Court, where the Magistrates made a summary order, in
every instance, for the abatement, prohibition, or closing, or
a combination of such Orders as the circumstances required.
Animals kept Improperly, so as to be a Nuisance.
Sect. 2. (c)
Orders were served upon owners to abate summarily
nuisances caused by a number of dogs, cats, and fowls being
kept in such place or manner as to be a nuisance or injurious
or dangerous to health.
