unusual amount of sunshine. May was similar. June
remained fine, dry, and warm. July was generally fine and
warm. August was very warm, fine, and dry, with a
remarkably hot period extending from the 8th to the 18th.
September was generally fine and dry, particularly during
the first half of the month. October was fairly fine and
warm, with frequent rain in the middle of the month.
November was for the most part cloudy and cold. In
December the weather was dull and mild.
Common Lodging-houses.
(14 & 15 Vict., cap. 28, and 16 & 17 Vict., cap. 41).
55 common lodging-houses have been registered from
time to time by the Commissioners of Police to accommodate
2,262 lodgers; the prices of the beds range from 4d. to Is.
per night.

The houses are under the supervision of Reserve Inspector Blatchford and Sergeant Raven, of the Bow Street E Sub-division, and Reserve Inspector McKenna and Sergeant White, of the Vine Street C Sub-division.
