Nice and Hawkins, 55, Aldgate High
Street.
These are extensive premises of modern construction,
and in excellent repair. The sale of meat
is conducted in the front portion; the back part
forming the slaughterhouse is divided from the
adjoining one by a wall of white glazed bricks.
The Pounds are on the outside, and approached
from Harrow Alley. A good trade in homegrown
meat is done here.
James Gibbs Killby, 56, Aldgate High
Street.
These are companion premises to No. 55, and
the same remarks apply to them throughout,
except that the trade at No. 55 is chiefly beef,
while No. 56 is largely devoted to the slaughter
and sale of calves, lambs and sheep.
I have always found the premises clean and
well ordered.
