SLAUGHTERHOUSES.
No diminution has taken place in the number
of slaughterhouses in Aldgate.
The several premises are under constant
observation by the Inspectors of Slaughterhouses
and Meat, and the following may be
taken as their condition at the present time.
Scales and Leuw, 44, Aldgate High Street.
The front part of the premises is devoted to
the sale of meat, which is exposed on the front
under a roof. At the back is a spacious
slaughterhouse, approached from the street by
a private alley, which serves also for the adjacent
premises, No. 45. There is a Pound of considerable
size, divided for bullocks and sheep,
behind the slaughterhouse. The premises are
lofty and well-ventilated, in good repair, and
cleanly and well-kept. A considerable amount
of slaughtering is still done here.
