In view of the number of absentees, I communicated
at once with the Medical Officer of
the School Board for London, and that Officer
informed me that, on the 18th inst., there were
27 infants absent from measles, and on the 21st
inst., 30 suffering from the same disease.
Having informed the Medical Officer of the
School Board that I should feel it my duty to
advise your Honourable Court to give an order
for the temporary closing of the Infant School
for the purpose of having the premises thoroughly
disinfected, I have received an answer in reply,
in which he states: ‘I think from a consideration
of all the circumstances that it would be
wise to close the Infants' Department, and I
have advised the Committee accordingly.'
Under these circumstances I advise you to
serve a formal order on the School Board for
London to close the School for 21 days, during
which time the premises must be disinfected,
such order being in conformity with the powers
conferred upon you as a Sanitary Authority
under Article 98 of the Educational Code.
