Small Pox.
There were 131 certificates received from medical practitioners
respecting cases of Small Pox. Of these 118 referred to individual
cases, while a few others proved to have been incorrect in diagnosis.
Towards the end of 1892 several cases had been notified, but in its
last three weeks none had been known. However, with the first week
of the year 1893 two were notified, and from this period, with one
exception, cases occurred every week up to and including the last week
of June.
The disease never assumed a grave epidemic form, although in the
months of March and April its behaviour gave some cause for anxiety.
In the chart accompanying this report it will be noticed that after
the second week in April it commenced to subside, and that in August
it assumed a sporadic form.
In the following Tables are given the number of notifications and
the sickness rates per 1,000 of the population.
