WHOOPING COUGH.
Whooping Cough, although more fatal than in the preceding year,
did not destroy as many children as in 1891, and it was also less fatal
than in the decade 1881-90.
During the decade 1861-70, the average number of deaths per
annum was 172, in the succeeding decennial period (1871-80) it was
206, and in the last period 1880-91, it was 204. The deaths now
recorded are 181, in 1892 they were 130, and in 1891, 235.
The death-rates in these several periods were—
1861—70 0·94 per 1,000 of the population.

These figures are most satisfactory, and prove that generally the
disease continues to hold a downward progress.
In proportion to population it was most fatal in the Sub-districts of
Islington, South West, and least so in Highbury.
