Deaths and Death Rate.
The deaths of 2,375 persons—1,l94 males and 1,181 females —were
registered in Fulham during the year, but of these 508 were of persons not
belonging to the district who died in public institutions within the parish.
while the deaths of 186 persons belonging to Fulham occurred in institutions
situated outside the parish. There were, therefore, 2,053 deaths of parish.
ioners of Fulham, the mortality being at the rate of 17.5 per 1000 living
which is the lowest rate yet recorded in Fulham.
The death rate for the whole of London was 18.2, and of the three
adjoining parishes—that of Kensington was 16.8, of Hammersmith 17.2,
and of Chelsea 18.8. The lowest rates in the 43 sanitary areas into which
the Metropolis is divided were 11.9 in Hampstead, 12.7 in Stoke Newington.
13.4 in Lee, 13.6 in St. George's, Hanover Square, 14.3 in Wandsworth
and Lewisham, and 15.3 in Paddington, and the highest rates were 22.7 in
Strand, 22.8 in St. Saviour's, Southwark, 22.9 in Limehouse, 23.4 in
Holborn, 24.0 in St. George's, Southwark, 24.5 in S. George's-in-the-East,
and 25.1 in St. Luke's.
Among the 33 large towns in England the lowest rates were those of
Croydon 14.2, Derby 15.7, West Ham and Brighton 16.1, Huddersfield and
Bradford 16.5, Portsmouth 16.6, and Leicester 16.7; and the highest those of
Birmingham 20.5, Preston 20.9, Salford 22.5, Manchester 22.6, and Liverpool
22.7.
CORRECTION FOR AGE AND SEX DISTRIBUTION.
In comparing the death-rates of different areas due regard must be
paid to the differences of age and sex distribution in the population upon
which such death-rates are calculated, and the recorded death-rates require
correction before they can be used for the purposes of comparison.

Corrected for these factors the death-rates of Fulham and the adjoining parishes are as under:—
