Smoke Abatement.—During the year 1924 complaints
were received about the large amount of black grit being
emitted from several chimneys at the Brush Works. On
investigation it was ascertained that the boiler power
was insufficient, and that, in consequence, the fires were
being forced to their fullest capacity. The management
have now increased the boiler power by the installation
of a large and new boiler specially designed to consume
its own smoke. Since this has been working no furthercomplaints
have been received.
