BIRTHS.
There were registered during the year 221 births,
iz., 110 Males, and III Females.
The Birth Rate per 1,000 of the population is therefore
16.0. In 1918 this rate was 14.9. There were
18 Illegitimate Births registered.
The Birth rate for England and Wales in 1919 was
18.5, and for 148 Smaller Towns (20,000 to 50,000
population) 18.3, and for London 18.3.
DEATHS.
The total number of deaths during the year was
99, iz., 50 Males, and 49 Females, affording a death
rate of 7.4, as compared with 14.8 in 1918 (when we
had a high mortality from Influenza and its complications).
The Death Rate for England and Wales in 1919
was 13.8, and for the 148 Smaller Towns 12.6 per
'1,000 population.
The causes of death are set out in the following table (civilians only).

Many quite old people are amongst the deaths; for
instance 9 were 80 years or over, and one died at the
advanced age of 92.
