DEATH-RATE.
There were 99 deaths registered in the district. Five
of these (being deaths of non-residents) are referred to
their own districts, leaving a total of 94 and affording a
death-rate of 7.2 per 1000.
Twenty three other deaths occurred outside the
district of persons claiming Wealdstone as their last
place of residence. These have to be added to the total
number occurring within the district in order to obtain
the nett death-rate of 9.0 per 1000.
There are certain unfortunate incidental features
which this year go to make the death-rate higher than
it otherwise would be, viz., that nine of the deaths
occurred in infants who survived less than four days, and
five of the nine only lived a few hours.
It seems hardly fair that the deaths of these doomed
little mortals, who can scarcely be said to have lived at
all, should each have as much effect upon the death-rate
as that of an adult, thus exercising an unfavourable
influence upon what otherwise would have been a record
rate.
Nineteen deaths were of persons 70 years of age and
over, seven were 80 and over, one had reached the age
of 90, and one 98.
Table III., appended to the Report, gives the
different causes of death arranged under the various age
limits, but it may be of interest to state here that:
Nine deaths were due to Phthisis,
Twelve to Cancer,
Two to Influenza,
Six to Measles,
One to Whooping Cough,
Nine to Bronchitis,
Ten to Premature Birth and Debility,
Four to Accidents,
One to Diphtheria,
Eight to Heart Diseases.
INFANTILE MORTALITY.
The Infantile death-rate works out at 69.6 as compared
with 63.89 for 1912.
Two deaths were due to Measles, one to Whooping
Cough, two to Meningitis, two to Bronchitis, four to
Diarrhœa, two to Congenital Malformations, five to
Premature Birth, two to Debility, one to Laryngitis, one
to Gastritis.
