The recorded death-rates for the preceding 12 years
will be found in Table 1 of Vital Statistics appended to
Report.
INFANT MORTALITY.
This special rate refers to the number of deaths
occurring amongst infants from birth to 1 year of age, in
proportion to the number of births registered. These
deaths were 23 in number. The recorded births numbering
just 300, the infant mortality rate works out at 76
per 1,000 births. There is a very satisfactory improvement
in this rate which stood at 97 per 1,000 births for
1906. The average infantile death-rate for the past 12
years is 115.5.

3 Children under 1 year died from Whooping Cough.
1 from Measles, 2 from Diarrhoea, 4 from Bronchitis, 2
from Pneumonia, 3 from Premature Birth, and 9 from
all other causes.
