several factors at work, affecting somewhat adversely the
character of the death-rate, and the fact that it works out
at only 0.4 in advance of that of last year must be
regarded as very satisfactory.
From some cause or other, probably depression of
trade, the increase of population was below the average,
amounting only to some 570 persons.
There were 35 deaths in the March quarter.
