The population is however increasing at the rate of
about 1000 souls per annum, and the Council are fully
alive to the necessity of making due provision for the
future needs of the district in this matter.
COWSHEDS, DAIRIES, AND MILKSHOPS.
Inspections of these places have been made regularly,
and casually, and reports on their condition furnished to
the Council, They were generally found to be in a
satisfactory state as regards cleanliness of premises and
utensils, space and ventilation. Much of the milk supply
of the district is however derived from outside sources
over which we have practically no control.
There has, however, been no reason to suspect the
milk supply of originating or conveying infection in any
case.
slaughter houses.
There are 3 of these buildings in the district. They
have been inspected and reported on regularly as conforming
with the bye-laws regulating these places.
FACTORY AND WORKSHOPS ACT.
A record of the work done will be found set out in
the form supplied by the Home Office and attached to
this report.
There were 18 inspections of factories, and 71 of
workshops.
Four written notices were given. Defects found
were : insufficient drainage of floors, insufficient sanitary
accommodation, and a few other minor defects.
REGISTERED WORKSHOPS, INCLUDING
BAKEHOUSES.
There are 33 of these in the district. They have
been inspected systematically and reports on their condition
furnished to the Council. They were found
generally to be in a satisfactory condition. Where
defects existed they were usually want of limewashing,
deficient ventilation, defective yard surfaces, and collections
of refuse contiguous to bakehouse.
