WATER SUPPLY.
The water supply is from the Colne Valley Water
Company. All houses are supplied on the constant
system. No complaints have been received. All houses
are supplied with water-closets.
DUST REMOVAL.
There is now a weekly removal of dust. This has
been carried out satisfactorily, and comparatively few
complaints have been received. The work is now done
by the Council's own men and carts. Formerly this
work was done by contract, and the removal was fortnightly
for 9 months of the year, and weekly during
July, August, and September. The tarring of the road
surfaces has been decidedly conducive to health and
comfort, affording a much cleaner surface and less dust.
GROWTH OF DISTRICT DURING THE
PAST YEAR.
At the close of the year there were 2218 houses in
the district, of which 1951 were occupied, an increase of
196 since my last Report. The estimated increase of
population was over 1100—rising from 9650 in 1905 to
10,760 for 1906. Four new roads have been made up,
leaving very few unmade roads remaining. One new
estate has been partially developed, with 3 new streets
and sewers on the dual system.
