bakehouses,
There are 6 of these within the District, and reports on
their condition will shortly be submitted.
SEWAGE FARM.
As mentioned in my last report the main difficulties here
are the efficient treatment of the Sewage in times of storm,
and the satisfactory disposal of sludge. On the whole the
effluent has been very satisfactory. It is contemplated to
make further improvements in order to deal more satisfactorily
with the wet weather flow.
SANITARY INSPECTIONS, Etc.
Twenty-three complaints of nuisances have been dealt
with; 96 inspections of houses and premises and 228 reinspections
have been made; 41 rooms have been fumigated,
and 20 stripped and cleansed; 49 new dust bins have been
provided. Dust collections take place fortnightly for 9 months
in the year and weekly during July, August and September;
fewer complaints of non-removal have been made. The roads
have been well swept and cleansed. A few houses in the
district are very old and dilapidated and scarcely fit for
human habitation. It is intended to deal with these shortly
DAIRIES, COWSHEDS, AND SLAUGHTER HOUSES.
There are 11 dairies, 4 cowsheds, and 3 slaughter houses
in the district. These have been inspected periodically, and
found to be in a satisfactory condition.
Reports on the health of the district generally and the
incidence of Infectious Diseases have been furnished by me to
the Council at each meeting.
During the year 100 new tenement houses and 44 flats
have been built, and 80 houses and 14 flats are in course of
erection. Fifty-eight plans have been approved, comprising
111 houses, 9 shops and houses combined, 12 additions to
factories and workshops, 10 alterations to houses, 10 stables,
and 12 other buildings. All new houses are constructed with
the ground area asphalted, or covered with a layer of good
cement concrete, and with good damp courses. The drains
are tested by water.
