HOUSING.
(a) Overcrowding.—The Council commenced its overcrowding
survey under the Housing Act, 1935, in
December, and five enumerators and three clerks were
appointed. It was deemed advisable to complete Form
B. only from the commencement, which at a later date
will ultimately save considerable time and expense, even
though the Survey takes longer than if done on Form A.
Up to 31st December, 5429 houses had been dealt
with by the Enumerators.
Owing to the forthcoming amalgamation, the survey
for each of the combining districts will be construed as
one unit. There were 82 cases of legal overcrowding,
and a detailed analysis thereof is being submitted to the
Council early in 1936.
(b) Action under Section 19, Housing Act, 1930.
During the year three houses were demolished
arising out of action taken during the previous year,
they were:—
75 and 77 Rectory Road, Little Thurrock.
Butler's Corner, Stanford-le-Hope.
Notices of the time and place at which the Council
would consider making demolition orders were served
on four owners, representing ten houses.
Formal undertakings were accepted respecting six
premises, and at the end of the year four undertakings
were anticipated.
. (c) Section 17, Housing Act, 1930.
149 houses were repaired arising out of informal
action, while 18 houses were repaired after formal action.
