HOUSES CONNECTED TO WATER MAIN.
There have been one hundred and fifty-one new and
existing houses connected with the South Essex Water
Company's mains during the past year.
BAKEHOUSES.
The several Bakehouses have been regularly inspected,
of which there are nineteen. Limewashing has been
carried out at regular periods, and they are in a satisfactory
condition.
WORKSHOPS.
There are fifty-two Workshops in the several districts,
which are duly registered and are inspected by me, also
by the Factory and Workshop Inspector.
A complaint was received from the Factory Inspector
of unsuitable sanitary arrangements at a Workplace in
Little Thurrock. A notice was served by me upon instructions
received from the Council to abate the nuisance,
the nuisance being abated by closing the structure.
SLAUGHTER HOUSES.
The Slaughterhouses in use are in a very satisfactory
condition.
SCAVENGING.
The Scavenging Departments which are under my
supervision are carried out by contract in the following
parishes, viz.:—Chadwell-St.-Mary, Little Thurrock,
Stanford-le-Hope, and South Ockendon. In West
Thurrock and Stifford it is done also by contract, but the
Council employ a man for each sewage van and cart.
Owing to the increase of work in the parish of Stifford
a new van was necessary, which is at present employed four
days per week, and I now can keep up with the increased
work.
I am, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
JOHN HURST, C.S.I., Inspector of Nuisances.
