There was no case of Small-pox in a successfully revaccinated
person—3 cases with 4 marks, all discreet; 14
with 3 marks, 7 semi-confluent, 7 discreet; 7 with 2 marks,
3 semi-confluent, 4 discreet; 6 with 1 mark, 1 confluent, 1
semi-confluent, 4 discreet; 13 with no visible mark of
vaccination, 3 confluent (2 died with Small-pox so fully out
that if there had been marks they would not have been
visible), 6 semi-confluent, 4 discreet; 1 case had inoculated
Small-pox in infancy and now had a discreet attack.
8carlet Fever
1 case of Scarlet fever from Grays was also treated in
the Isolation Hospital.
There were 61 cases of Scarlet fever notified and 3
deaths, viz: 1 at Orsett, 1 at West Tilbury, and 1 at
Corringham (Thames Haven). Almost all the cases were of
a mild type and distributed over the whole district, most of
the cases being at and round Tilbury Docks.
Diphtheria
There were 20 cases of Diphtheria notified and 10 deaths,
the greater number, 9 cases and 6 deaths, being at and round
Tilbury Docks, and 10 cases and 3 deaths at West and Little
Thurrocks. There was a very great increase in the number of
cases over the greater part of Essex.
Membranous
Croop
There were 8 cases of membranous croup notified and 6
deaths; the whole of the 6 deaths occurring round Tilbury
Docks.
