Fever«
There were 20 cases of Typhoid or Enteric fever notified
and 4 deaths: 1 being1 at Aveley, 1 at Stanford-le-Hope, and
2 in Orsett Union Workhouse, both imported from Grays,
A special report made in November, and copy sent to County
Council.
Puerperal
There were 8 cases of Puerperal fever notified and 5
deaths Six cases and 3 deaths were at and round Tilbury
Docks. A mid-wife attended 4 cases of confinement in 24
hours; 3 patients had Puerperal fever and 3 died. One
patient, was not ill. An inquest was held in one case and the
mid-wife ordered to attend no more cases for 2 months. The
other cases were: 1 at West Thurrock and 1 at South
Ockendon, the latter commencing with Erysipelas
No case.
Cholera
Erysipelas
There were 36 cases of Erysipelas notified an 12 deaths.
The cases were spread very much over the whole district, but
the greater number were at and round Tilbury Docks. The
deaths occurred: 1 at West Thurrock, and 1 at the Docks—
a new born infant. The number of cases of Erysipelas has
increased greatly the last two years.
Measles
Un-notified. Two deaths: 1 at West Thurrock and 1
at Orsett (the only case I heard of here).
Whooping Cough
Un-notified. No death, but prevalent in Orsett and
village of Chadwell St. Mary.
Diarrhoea and
Dysentery
IJn-notified. Twenty deaths : 10 of them at and round
Tilbury Docks.
Influenza
Epidemic of Influenza occurred again this year over all
the district, but only caused 1 death.
Examination of
Water
I have examined 19 samples of water and found 7 unfit
for drinking purposes.
