The corrected estimated population in Table I. is used to
calculate all the rates in this Report.
Births.
During the year 1921, 6,107 births, 3,189 of males and 2,978
of females, occurred, compared with 7,212 in 1920.
The total number of births in this Borough was 6,039, but
598 births occurred in Institutions outside the Borough of persons
belonging to the Borough, and 470 births in Institutions in
the Borough of persons not belonging to the Borough, making
a corrected total of 6,167.
In Table II. is shown the number of births, males and
females, the birth.rate, and the rate of natural increase for each
sub.district, and for the whole Borough.

The birth-rate was 18.80 per 1,000, compared with 21.03 for
1920, and 18.87 the decennial average.
Table III. shows the birth-rate in the Borough, in the five
sub-districts, in London, and in England and Wales, for the
year, as well as the rates for the previous 10 years, compared
with the decennial average.
