Malaria.
19 cases were notified (two in Clapham, one in Putney, four
in Streatham, four in Tooting, and eight in Wandsworth). All
of the cases but two were males.
No case was notified in which the disease was contracted
within the Borough.
Of 17 Army cases, seven contracted the disease in Salonica,
one in Egypt, three in Mesopotamia, five in India, and one in
other parts..
The two females notified contracted the disease in India.
These 19 cases were visited again at the end of the year,
and it was found that eight were still suffering, six had removed,
four were stated to be well, and in one no information could be
obtained.
Every case notified was visited to ascertain that proper
treatment was being given, and any cases where the patients
were not having proper medical attention were advised to attend
a special hospital.
There was no spread of infection among the civil population.
Of the 83 cases notified in previous years, and who were
still suffering in 1920, 35 were in 1921 still suffering, nine have
removed from the Borough, 38 are stated to be well, and one has
died.
Dysentery.
Six cases were notified (two in Clapham, two in Streatham,
one in Tooting, and one in Wandsworth).
All the cases were males, and in five the disease was contracted
during Army service in the following war areas: one
each in France, Germany, East Africa, India, and Mesopotamia.
