Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
Whooping Cough.
1,201 cases were notified (142 in Clapham, 167 in Putney,
314 in Streatham, 174 in Tooting, and 404 in Wandsworth). 107
of these were infants under one year of age, 507 from one and
under five years, 575 from five and under 15 years, five from 15
and under 25 years, and seven over 25 years.
Thirty-four cases were removed to hospital.
This disease was not so prevalent in the Borough during the
year, with the exception of Putney, in which there was an increase
in the number of cases notified.
The disease was not very fatal, and there is no doubt that
notification and visits paid by the Health Visitors have had a
most beneficial effect in reducing the mortality.
Influenzal Pneumonia and Acute Primary Pneumonia.
During the year 79 cases of Influenzal Pneumonia were
notified, (17 in Clapham, five in Putney, 35 in Streatham, four in
Tooting, and 18 in Wandsworth), compared with 97 in 1920.
One of the cases was under one year, one from one and under
five years, four from five and under 15 years, 12 from 15
and under 25 years, 19 from 25 and under 45 years, 27 from 45
and under 65 years, and 15 over 65 years.
374 notifications of cases of Acute Primary Pneumonia were
received (54 in Clapham, 40 in Putney, 113 in Streatham, 35 in
Tooting, and 142 in Wandsworth), compared with 408 in 1920.
27 of the cases were infants under one year, 43 from one
and under five years, 51 from five and under 15 years, 42 from
15 and under 25 years, 102 from 25 and under 45 years, 70 from
45 and under 65 years,and 39 over 65 years.
All the cases were visited, and when requested by the medical
attendant or householder the premises, etc., were disinfected
by the sanitary staff of the Council.
