Unsound Food.
11 rabbits and 302 lbs. of rabbit; five pig's, 24½ lbs. of bacon,
371 lbs. of beef, three chickens, 15¾ lbs. of butter, 131 boxes
margarine, six trunks of whiting, four boxes of skate, five trunks
of herrings, one box of plaice, four boxes of cod's roes, seven
trunks of haddocks, one box of cat-fish, three boxes of hake, one
box of lobsters, 13 boxes of kippers, one bag of whelks, 10 barrels
and 45 boxes of apples, 12 boxes of tomatoes, 12 bags of
chestnuts, 95½ lbs. of cheese, 77 tins of apricots, 22 tins of pineapple,
20 tins of pears, 16 tins of peaches, 65 tins of tomatoes,
three tins of apples, 151 tins of condensed milk, three tins of fish
paste, one tin of sardines, two tins of crayfish, two tins of salmon
and 66 lbs. of corned beef were condemned and the usual certificates
granted. Most of the beef, bacon, rabbits, butter and
margarine was sent to a fat melter in the Borough to be converted
into glycerine.
One instance of exposing unsound meat for sale occurred
during the year, and the offender was convicted at the Police
Court and a fine of £5, with 42/- costs was inflicted.
Inspection of Milkshops, Cowsheds, etc.
The following Table shows in concise form the number of
milk premises, cowsheds, etc., on the register, the number of
inspections, and the number of cases of legal proceedings during
the year, as well as other information which it has been thought
advisable to group together for the purpose of comparison with
other Metropolitan Boroughs.
