upwards of 10 per cent. of all causes of death. This loss
of infant life is truly deplorable, for I believe many such
deaths might be prevented were it not for the ignorance,
and culpable, if not criminal, neglect of parents; the
terms low vitality, debility from birth, Tabes Mesenterica,
are too often used to describe deaths, only too
surely, I fear, the result of a course of insufficient or
improper feeding.
In class 13 there are 25 deaths, a large number to
be attributed to old age alone; they form upwards of 7
per cent. of all deaths.
The other classes differing but little from their
averages, require no special remark.
