is now embarking on most attractive evening shawls, which
should be very popular. Another student specialises in artistic
bracelets. There is, in fact, a variety of work. They, or we,
are a very happy family.
"I am confident that Handicraft Classes are an essential part
of an ultimate cure ; they create something to do, something to

dull and uninteresting.
"There is tremendous competition and keenness in the work,
and a general feeling in the classroom that life is not so hopeless
after all.
"The outing to Eastbourne and Wannock Tea Gardens in
July was most enjoyable as was also the Christmas party and
entertainment.
"Thanks are due to the Chairman and members of the Care
Committee, Mrs. Sains and Mrs. Mabbs, also the staff at the
Dispensary and Miss Campbell for again giving a display, the
proceeds of which will help this year's Outing Fund."
Cookery Class.
These classes have been continued through the year, and the
fact that many of the women who came to the first classes have
continued their attendances shews that Miss Rankin, the instructress
from the South Metropolitan Gas Company, has
retained their interest with a variety of useful menus.
During the year following on their Report on Nutrition, the
British Medical Association published a booklet giving varied
menus for every day for a period of three weeks, which menus
embodied the quantities and kind of foods laid down in the
report as necessary. The cooking of these has been demonstrated
at the classes, the quantities and cost of articles as purchased
locally being given.
