To facilitate the flushing and cleansing of sewers, manholes
and flushing chambers have been constructed in:—
Hyde-place Mill's-buildings
Kensington-road Sheppard's-place
The invert of the sewer in James-street was renewed at a
cost of £260 2s. 3d., and in Great George-street at a cost of
£167 18s. 4d.
The old sewer which ran partly under the houses in Richmond-mews
has been filled in and a new 12in. pipe sewer constructed
at a cost of £330 12s. 9d.
At an expenditure of £152 13s. 8d., a 12in. pipe sewer has
been laid in Parker-street, in lieu of the old defective sewer.
About 140ft. of 12in. pipe sewer together with ventilating
shaft and flushing chamber has been constructed in Grosvenorstreet
at a cost £90 12s. 3d.
The very defective brick sewer which runs under No. 4,
Page-street, has been replaced by about 120ft. of 9in. pipe
sewer, at a cost of £111 19s. 9d.
In addition to renewing the gullies, &c.,in Kensington-road,
about 480ft. of pipe sewer has been laid at a cost of
£180 16s. 2d. to receive the surface drainage from Queen's-gate
to Gloucester-road.
The defective service drains at Palmer's-passage have been
renewed at a cost of £67 9s. 3d.
A side entrance has been constructed in Grosvenor-road by
Vauxhall-bridge-road at a cost of £102 16s. 4d.
An upcast sewer ventilating shaft has been carried up the
face of a house in Cobourg-row, opposite the Almshouses, at a
cost of £11 5s. 1d.
In November the Vestry entered into a contract with Mr. J.
H. Neave for the construction of about 3,000ft. of 3ft. 9in. by
2ft. 6in. brick sewer in Vincent-square, Douglas-street, Chapterstreet,
Vauxhall-bridge-road, Bessborough-gardens, and Careystreet,
and at the completion of the year the work was nearing
completion.
