these rates were laid were as follows:—

Vestry—maintenance, lighting and
cleansing of the roadways, footways,
etc., and construction and maintenance

For salaries, printing and other expenses
incidental to the collection of moneys
for other boards (proportion of Poor

For the expenses of the Free Public
Libraries (now included in the Poor

For the expenses of the Baths Commissioners
(also included in the Poor

For the relief of the poor, including expenses
of the London County Council,
Police, and Metropolitan Asylums

For the purposes of the School Board for

The Vestry have no manner of control over the expenditure
for the two last named purposes. They are merely
the agents for levying and collecting the sums named in
the orders or precepts of other bodies.
