We have abstracted the following figures as showing the financial transactions of the Vestry for the year
Rate. | Balance at commencement of year. | Receipts from all sources. | Disbursements. | Balance at close of year. | ||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
£ | s. | d. | s. | d. | £ | s. | d. | £ | s | d. | ||
Poor Rate | 1,398 | 18 | 7 | 103,843 | 10 | 10 | 97,771 | 17 | 0 | 7,588 | 9 | 10 |
DistrictRates | 6,178 | 2 | 5 | 85,762 | 18 | 3 | 86,225 | 2 | 8 | 5,715 | 18 | 0 |
Total | 7,577 | 1 | 0 | 189,606 | 9 | 1 | 183,996 | 19 | 8 | 13,304 | 7 | 10 |
The total of the rates not recovered amounted to £9,544 5s.
4d., or 5.04 per cent., and that of the "recoverable arrears"
brought forward, to £1,071 0s. 11d. We have had before us a
valuable summary, showing the "irrecoverables" in the several
wards, from which, we understand, an analytical statement is
prepared for the information of the Finance Committee. We
have no means of checking the accuracy of the separate items
in the schedules of "irrecoverables," but we are informed that
these lists, with the reason for non-recovery in each case, are
placed before the Finance Committee, and that the Collectors
are there questioned upon any of the cases which appear to
require explanation. We notice, however, that the percentage of
rates not recovered is still kept within as low a limit as can be
reasonably expected.
The business-like supervision by the Committee and the
creditable book-keeping of the executive, as well as the unreserved
manner in which everything has been placed within our reach,
enable us to complete our audit with unabated confidence.
