were cases of sudden death in common lodging-houses, two
were drowned in the Thames, and five found dead in the
streets. The majority were sent in by the coroner to await
inquests, or admitted at the request of relatives in consequence
of insufficient accommodation at home or in
lodgings.

One hundred and fifteen samples of food and Analysis of Food & Drugs. drugs were purchased and submitted to the analyst during the year, the nature of the articles purchased, and the results of the analyses being shown in the following summary :—

The Parliamentary Committee, of which Mr. J. Brend
Batten was re-appointed Chairman, and Mr Thomas Horn,
Vice-Chairman, met four times within the period covered
by this review, when fifty-four different Bills and Parliamentary
Schemes were considered and reported upon.
