12 Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
During the year the Minister of Health decided that special
inquiry should be made into the causation of all maternal deaths
and a representative Committee was set up to go into the matter.
A special form of inquiry has been drafted by the Minister
of Health, who has made Medical Officers of Health responsible
for its completion and return to him when a maternal death
occurs.
Dr. Leonard Phillips has been appointed by the Council
to act as consultant and to make inquiry into those deaths which
present special difficulty.
All the maternal deaths which occurred after 1st June (13
in number), were inquired into, and in one of these the investigations
were made by Dr. Phillips.
