MILK AND DAIRIES (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1922, AND
ORDERS MADE THEREUNDER.
I have received the following report from Mr. Nicholson of the work
carried out under his supervision during the year under:—
(1) The Milk and Dairies (Amendment) Act, 1922, and the
various Orders and Regulations dealing with milk; and
(2) The Factory and Workshop Act in so far as it appertains to
Bakehouses.
At the end of 1933, there were on the Milksellers Registers:—
404 Names 398 Premises Retail.
36 ,, 36 ,, Wholesale.
70 ,, Outsiders Retail.
37 ,, ,, Wholesale.
During the year 1934, 80 persons were registered to sell milk retail
at their premises. Of these, 14 premises were registered as dairies and
66 to sell milk in containers as received.
3 of the persons were registered as wholesale milksellers and their
premises as wholesale dairies.
1 wholesale and 2 retail milksellers, outsiders, were registered to
sell milk in this Borough.
1 retail outsider was refused registration, being considered unsuitable.

Sale of milk discontinued at 16 premises (Retail)
Removed from Register (Retail) 71 names 69 premises
2 of the names were no longer partners in business.
Removed from Register (Wholesale) 10 names 10 premises

*Of the 409 premises:—
98 are used as dairies. Of these, 45 sell milk on round.
289 sell milk in containers as received.
18 sell milk for consumption on premises only.
4 used as depots for delivery of bottled milk on rounds.
The change-over from sale of loose milk to milk in bottles or other
containers steadily continues.
