HOUSING.
During the year the 1930 Housing Act came into force dealing with
Clearance Schemes, Improvement Schemes and measures affecting
individual unfit houses.
This Act is far-reaching as regards a Borough like Southwark, in
which much of the residential property has seen its best days, and having
been built during the same period (in the early 1800's) is all falling to
decay at the same time. The chief point affecting this Borough is the
obligation under the Act to provide accommodation in advance of any
displacement of the occupants—in other words—re-housing must precede
slum clearance.

The number of houses granted to families from Southwark by the
London County Council amounted to 113. They were distributed as
follows:-
Downham 4
Hendon 2
Morden 63
Becontree 42
Comber 1
Bellingham 1
The Hard Street area amended in consultation with representatives
of the London County Council is still under consideration, and the
following streets and premises are included in it, and will be dealt with
by the London County Council shortly:—
Hard Street
Kingston Street
Townley Street
East Street
Morecambe Street
Angle Street
Blackwood Street
King and Queen Street
Beddome Street
During the year 1930, the following blocks of buildings have been
erected in Southwark:—
1-70, Pilton Place 70 flats
1-8, Cole Street 8 flats
62-68, Beresford Street 9 flats
1-6, Camberwell Road 6 flats
46 and 47, Revesby Street, Section 11, 14,15, Housing Act, 1925.—
Closing Orders were made prohibiting the use of the above-named
