suburbs where rent is less. In the lower class of tenements there is
beginning to be seen a great improvement in the way of cleanliness
brought about by the careful application of the provisions of the London
County Council General Powers Act, 1904. The cleansing of verminous
school children has also brought home to parents in a very forcible
manner the great inconvenience they are likely to suffer in having their
rooms and contents disinfected, when the children are found to be
verminous. The necessity of a supply of water and a sink on the
several storeys of a tenemented house is a splendid piece of legislation,
and in the few hundred cases already provided with such accommodation
the gratitude of the tenants ha3 been loudly expressed.
