Private drain work. One hundred and nine new house drains
(from sewer to line of frontage,) reconstructions, &c.,
£289 1s. 4d.
Ditto—by the Vestry's workmen. Fourteen re-constructions, &c.
(from sewer to line of frontage,) and openings, &c., to unstop
drains, £18 11s. 0d.
A new two 3-person slate urinal was erected under the Surveyor's
supervision by Mr. Gr. Jennings, of Lambeth, at the junction of
City Road, and Shepherdess "Walk, the nett cost was £150;
additional charges for drainage, plumbing, mason's work,
gasfitting, &c., amounted to about £50. The Vestry of St.
Luke's contributed half the cost of this urinal, and pay half
the charge for maintenance.
The sewers in the following localities are in a very unsatisfactory
condition, and should be reconstructed—
Calvert Street
Livermere Road
Plough Yard
Dove Row
Four flushers, on average, with labourers were employed in
re-constructing, repairing, cleansing, disinfecting, &c., the sewers,
drains and gullys in the parish; their wages for the year
amounted to £506 4s. 7½d.
The sum of £42 14s. 3d. was also paid for watchmen's wages.
Three men have been constantly employed cleansing the Parish
urinals (including Sundays and holidays in the early morning);
their wages for the year amounted to £178 8s. 3d.
The sum of £5 1s. 6d. was paid for watchmen's wages during
the period, the constant supply to urinals was being laid on.
The sum of £291 2s. 6d. was received for 124 cases of new
private drains, re-constructions, &c., during the year, and paid into
the Treasurer's Account.
The sum of £91 7s. 8d. was received for 166 licenses to erect
hoards, Scaffolds, &c., and for renewals during the year, and paid
into the Treasurer's Account.
