Three paviors on average and their labourers were employed in
repairing the paved roads (including the repairing of Laburnum
Street, &c.) and over trenches opened by the Gas and Water
Companies; their wages for the year amounted to £500 9s. 8½d.
The Companies contributed £160 0s. 10d. for labour, and
£140 19s. 4d. for material required in the said repairs.
There are about fifty-one miles of carriageway in the Parish,
twelve being paved and the remaining portion MacAdam or
Ballast.
FOOTWAY PAYING.
The following works at the cost stated have been executed
during the past year—
Hackney Road.—Portion repaved with new Patent Victoria and
old squared York Stone, and curb reset £116 11s. 0d.
Maidstone Street.— Portion repaved with old squared York
Stone £3 3s. 9d.
Mill Row.—Portion paved with old squared York Stone, and
curb reset £19 16s. 3d.
Kingsland Road.—Portion repaved with new Patent Victoria and
old squared York Stone, and curb reset £88 15s. 3d.
Kingsland Road.—Portion repaved with old squared York Stone
£3 5s. 5d.
George's Place.—Paved with old squared York Stone, £5 12s. 3d.
Wood Street.—Portion repaved with old squared York Stone, and
curb reset £22 18s. 11d.
