CARRIAGEWAY PAYING.
The following are the works that have been executed during
the year.
Wrights Buildings, Riving ton Street—paved with dressed granites,
at a cost of £13 4s. 7d., (owners contributed one moiety).
Great James Street—crossing at Hoxton Street end, relaid, at
a cost of £2 7s. 8d.
Hoxton Street, by Great James Street—portion relaid at a cost
of £3 3s. 4d.
Hyde Road—crossing relaid at a cost of £2 3s. l1d.
Penn Street—crossing relaid at a cost of £2 10s. 10d.
Poole Street—crossings relaid at a cost of £5 19s. 0d.
Princes Street—the channels paved with old granites, at a cost of
£21 10s. 3d.
Sun Street—repaved, partly with new 7 by 3 pitchers, and partly
with dressed granites, at a cost of £206 1s. 11d.
John Street and portion of St. John's Terrace—paved with
dressed granites, at a cost of £180 6s 7d.
Holywell Lane—repaved with new 7 by 3 granites, at a
cost of £401 19s. 4d.
Shoreditch, in front of Great Eastern Railway—alterations to
carriageway, at a cost of £287 13s. 3d. (to be charged to the
Railway Company; also a small sum in relation to footways).
Two paviers and five laborers were employed in the repair
of the paved roads, and in repairing gas and water trenches, and
their wages amounted to £423 5s. 4d. for the year, of which the
Companies contributed £238 3s. 7d. for repairs to trenches.
There are about fifty-one miles of roads in the parish, of
which twelve are paved, the remainder being McAdam and
Ballast.
