Two foremen (one only since September last) and twelve
laborers have been employed in the general repairs of the unpaved
roads and in repairing trenches opened by the Gas and Water
Companies, and the wages paid them for the year amounted to
£712 3s. 4d. and the Companies contributed £610 1s. 1d. for
repairs to trenches in the said roads; the sum of £451 3s. 11d. was
paid for extra labor employed during the time the Steam Rollers
were at work.
STEAM ROAD ROLLER.
In July and August last two ten ton Steam Rollers were
hired by the Vestry, one from Messrs. Aveling and Porter, of
Rochester, and the other from Messrs. Green and Son, of Leeds,
and after being in use some time the first named one was purchased
for the sum. of £380 0s. 0d., and it continued working on the
roads until the winter weather put a stop to its operations, and it
commenced working again on the 5th March of this year.
The following statement will shew the roads rolled and the
cost of same:—
