The new Valuation Lists for the year, this being the quinquennial
period, have been completed and revised. The totals for the present
year are fixed at £609,278 Gross value, and £491,351 Rateable value.
For the previous year the amounts were: Gross value, £552,746;
Rateable value, £441,020: The totals for the Metropolitan District, as
finally settled, are: Gross value, £28,028,884, and the Rateable value,
£23,088,998. Only three appeals were entered from the Assessment

Two appeals were entered at the Assessment Sessions, viz., the London

were not fully sustained. It is upon the total rateable value that the
Police, County, Metropolitan Board's, School Board's, and other
charges are levied.
RAILWAYS, &c.
No new powers have been applied for in the present Session in
respect to Railway or other Companies, but the agreement between the
North London Railway and London and North Western Companies
and the City relative to the formation of the new footway from
Liverpool Street to Skinner Street has been carried out, and a
convenient, well paved, and well lighted thoroughfare has been
provided.
