This Bill proposes to intrust the duty of extinguishing fires and
protecting life and property from fire, to the Metropolitan Board of
Works, with power to appoint and maintain firemen, engines, &c.
The expenses of carrying out the Act, to be provided for by the
Insurance Companies, the Commissioners of the Treasury, and the
several parishes within the metropolis.
